Showing Up and Getting Real is How to Connect to an Audience.
Ok let's face it, giving a speech in front of a live audience can be a scary thing. Even when you rehearse and feel prepared, the nerves set in at the last minute. You want to give a super polished presentation, and get real with the audience too. Amanda Fuel, a public speaking coach, shares how getting vulnerable is one of the best ways to get your audience engaged. She muses, "it's this double edged sword. It's also a double edged good news and bad news. The good news is that we don't actually want you to be perfect. We don't actually want you to be that polished, not care about any of those things. So the good news is, you can just get up on stage and be yourself. It's also the bad news sometimes to that other part of you where it's like, and I'm just going to get up and be myself and I don't, I don't get a mask. I don't get to be a character or to have a costume."
Take off the polished mask and just be yourself. It's what your audience craves so you may as well dive all in with your true self.
