In this weeks episode of Miltrick Media, I sat down with Staten Island Comedian Jon Elias. Jon first got started with improv in 2007 while still in high school. They had an improv team that put on two shows a year. After graduation he started attending college in Philadelphia. During his time in school he got involved with improv around the city and later stand-up comedy. We discussed how Robin Williams is a huge influence to Jon and how after watching Robin Williams: Live in Broadway in 2007 he wrote his first batch of original material for a comedy set. He had three days to write three minutes. We talked about writing original material which he does both alone and with frequent writing partner Comedian Joe Naimoli. In November 2021, he performed at the NYC Arab American Comedy Festival at Gotham Comedy Club and we talked about performing after Ramy Youssef and what was going on through his head leading up to that performance. Later on in the episode, we talked about different styles of comedy, crowd work, how comedy has changed over time, and Jon’s biggest aspirations for his career in comedy.
