The Ten Commandments were famously given as the law to govern how we live. If we are to understand these commandments rightly, we need to understand the context in which they were given. In Exodus 20:1-17, we see that this law was given in the context of God showing grace to his people, which helps us understand the First Commandment not to have any other gods before Him.
