Favorite takeaways: 1. The bravest and best thing you can to is to get the help you need. 2. Conflict is the doorway to intimacy, as “in-to-me-you-see.” 3. Our kids stand on our shoulders. They reap the benefits of the changes that we make and the growth we experience. 4. What our kids need most is that example of how to fight well and how to get through the conflict and how to communicate efficiently. So many of our kids have seen us make lots of mistakes and it’s so important for them to see us apologize and improve and learn and grow and be better progressively, because it’s never an all-at-once thing. 5. The best gift you can give your kids is to love your spouse. It’s just the best gift for them to see you working out real life together. 6. I’ve seen that faith really helps people through a difficult time. With that faith I’ve seen couples stay together in the midst of really difficult situations and that has given them strength and a power that they didn’t have on their own and it’s given them great courage and great bravery to have difficult conversations. 7. Our brain is like Velcro- it holds on to the negative and the positive slides off like Teflon. 8. God is the force behind the change.
