It is strange and sad to have to include the public school system in this chapter about dangerous influencers. It feels as if a school should be a haven of safety. This trust bias, on the part of parents, toward the education system has allowed the public schools to wield undue influence in our kids’ lives for generations. With so many thousands of hours to indoctrinate our kids, it’s no surprise that whatever the public school system teaches soon becomes the cultural norm. The public school system leads culture by the hand, like a mother with her child.

Let’s start with the teachers. Parents trust them as professionals who have their kid’s best interests in mind. In my experience, teachers are well-intentioned. Who would put up with your kids otherwise? But don’t be fooled. No matter their intentions, they implement what they are told to teach by the government and school officials. They use the educational principles and strategies they were taught in university. Teachers are put through many years of intense messaging and indoctrination formulated by the same influencers that decide what kids learn in K-12. Believe me, I went through five years of “teacher training.”

The entire system is contained within the controlling hands of the state. Like refrigerant inside a heat pump that circulates endlessly and cannot escape, any student in the public system will circulate through a pre-determined path designed to create ideological clones of the state. The public school system is no longer trying to help your child thrive in a literate world. They are churning out brainwashed cogs for the state-run machines.

If the public school system is a tool in the hands of the government and the cultural influencers that run it, why do we deliver our kids each morning into their classrooms?

I believe the public school system, in its current form, is the most effective method of depositing bad ideas into young brains that has ever been invented. It is worse than advertisements, entertainment, and friends, because most parents still trust schools. They tell their kids to listen to the teacher, obey the teacher, and do their homework. Homework pushes the educational duties off on the parents so there is more time during the school day for non-academic lessons. Parents are recruited to reinforce the indoctrination and take up the slack where the system fails to teach. Parents are rarely on guard against the many dangerous and immoral ideas that are embedded throughout the curricula.

Parents, it is time to wake up! It is time we stop placing our precious kids into the hands of a system that will bend their minds as surely as the hammer drives the nail. The institution MAY have been conceived as a public good. It MAY have been intended to serve up quality education and equip all Americans for professions that required literate citizens. It may teach some kids to read, write, and do arithmetic at a passable level, but the moral instruction meant to instill civic virtues has been corrupted. Centralized systems are always corrupted over time. It’s inevitable. The public school system has suffered the worst mission creep imaginable. Parents must reject it and do better for their kids.
