Every father must learn the true value of family, children, and a lasting legacy. Then, he will pursue it all his life. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 NIV
Most men have mistaken plastic tokens for gold coins, valuing the wrong things. Each man must look within and address this error in his own life. The results of mistaking trash for treasure are manyfold and uniformly negative. Just read the news for a sampling of what this twisted valuation has caused. It’s human nature to protect that which is most valued. A man guards his treasure. He works to get more. He polishes his coins and protects them from thieves. It is time men learn to value their families and stop polishing their plastic tokens.
Fatherhood has fallen out of favor with most men and the culture we swim in. Our nation has fallen into chaos because men have abdicated their responsibility, allowing the State to move in to fill the influence vacuum in our homes. The State has become a father to us all. Too many men have accepted this, leaving their families vulnerable to the wolves.
We must reverse this trend if we hope to heal our nation, but what can one man do? I don’t hold the levers of power over others, but I do have authority over myself, my attitudes, and my choices. This is the only place to begin.
