Can I duplicate the same assets group and test it with different audience signals within the same ad campaign? Yes, you can certainly do that. But the only thing is if one ad set or asset group eats up all the budget, then the other one doesn't get looking.
I would recommend you make a new campaign with the different audience signals with the same ad so you can copy-paste and now with the Google Ads Editor its super-fast and that's how I would go about doing it.
