In the summer after her junior year of college, my mom decided that she wanted to see the country by taking a cross-country road trip... on a Vespa! In 1959, girls didn't do such things. It was an Odyssean voyage of perils and triumphs, and she told me this tale over a cup of coffee in her quiet suburban kitchen more than 60 years later. Yes, I had heard a small snippet of this story, but never the complete adventure. I was glad I asked.
