Per npr.org tens of thousands of African American women and young girls go missing each year here in America. The sad part is that whenever this happens to our mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, friends, girlfriends and/or wives, no one outside of the black community gives a damn. We have to take on the role of the police and investigator. The most surprising thing that happened with this most recent event involving Carlee Russell is how quickly the authorities got involved. Although it was a hoax, it did help to bring light to sex trafficking in this country, which is a topic that is not discussed enough. And what should also cause us to worry is how much less attention may be given when this happens the next time and it is not a hoax. And YES, this will happen again. The sad part is that it’s happening right now.
