So related to this but not in the podcast, there is a phrase in Hebrew for placing preservation of life above all other things: פקוח נפש
In Hebrew it is pronounced Pikuach Nefesh. This means you can break certain commandments for the reasons of illness or preventing death. This illustrates the importance of life over all else. Besides, if someone passes into the next world, they cannot continue to grow, perform mitzvot, worship or celebrate HaShem!
While we don't go into the Halachah, because this interview is from my other podcast, OpinioNation, we do discuss the Biblical views about preventing termination of pregnancies and the value of life in the Bible. We also discuss the clinical and medical terms and the specifics of abortive drugs and birth control.
