Churches of Christ are often told by their critics that they need to love more. They are called unloving because they refuse to accept and tolerate the things that are loved by the world. When we are told to be more loving, really we are being told to accept the actions and lifestyles that we know to be sinful. Loving by the world’s standards means accepting and encouraging everyone and everything, even if we do not hold it to be righteous or moral. That is what it means to love by the standards of the world. Well, they have one thing right. Christians are to always be loving and respectful. The Bible has shown us that numerous times. But the Bible’s true definition of love is very different from how love is portrayed today. Love is not acceptance and tolerance, but wanting what is best for the people that you care about. We can’t say we love someone if we are able to let them go and do things we know will have terrible consequences. So, what would happen if we loved more as the Bible portrayed it? What would be the result of loving more from the Bible’s definition?
