It has been a year since I became an owner/operator so I wanted to review how the last year has been and genuinely talk about my experience having been leased on as a contractor with two Carriers. The main reason I wanted to record this episode was to really drive home a point that there are a lot of drivers out there who post mis/disinformation about being an owner/operator, and in a lot of ways it is bad business advice. A lot of it is built on this notion of pride that if you don't have your own MC then you're not legitimate. This type of advice, especially with no regard to someone's financial or equipment situation is something that could lead guys to fail in growing a business. The last thing I ever want is someone who goes all in on themselves, especially in trucking, is to fail.
I do not claim to know everything, but I do know how to not go broke. There is a difference between taking risks, and just making poor financial decisions.
A lot of the bad advice recently has come from people who rode a really good freight wave that suddenly came crashing down on them. This episode really gets into some inside freight baseball, but is also a reminder of why I am here. I'm here for honor, and legacy. Two things almost medieval in a way. They're something people don't care about anymore. With me it isn't about money, I want this industry and the world to be a better place, and we don't get there by platforming frauds.
