Description

As the pandemic continues to keep its presence and remain relevant in our world, researchers are discovering more information about the progression of the COVID-19 virus and the connection to saliva’s enzyme receptors in the mouth.

As most of you know, your mouth is the first line of defense against foreign bacteria, viruses, and overall infections. Saliva has one of the most difficult roles in the body. Not only does it protect the body as the first line of defense, but it also must fight off all foreign microorganisms that enter the mouth and protect the mucosa and oral tissues from trauma, burns, and lesions. No pressure on saliva!

Saliva has so many functions, it’s incredible how important it is to your oral and systemic health! Today, I am going to only focus on a few of saliva’s main functions that are relevant and related to our topic on Covid-19 and the connection it has to saliva.
