Six Thinking Hats Model for Decision Making
Making business decisions requires considering several perspectives to cover all aspects and pros/cons. Six Thinking Hats is a model created by Edward de Bono to do just that.
I, personally, remember it through the mnemonic "PED-PCD"
1/ 🟡 Yellow Hat - Positivity: Looking at the benefits of the decision, and the opportunities it brings.
2/ 🟢 Green Hat - Creativity: Think of alternatives of doing the same without censoring any idea yet, and note down all possible solutions, no matter how silly they all sound.
3/ 🔴 Red Hat - Emotions: How do you and others feel about this?
4/ ⚪ White Hat - Data: Analyze the available data and trends rationally.
5/ âš« Black Hat - Downside: List all the cons, and carry out a sensitivity analysis of the worst possible outcomes of the decision.
6/ 🔵 Blue Hat - Process: Defining a process flow for how thee actions will be carried out.
