In part 1 of our interview with Mugwe Kiragu, he takes us on a journey of his life from Day 1 to the end of high school. An alum of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, Mugwe graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Honours Biotechnology and Economics degree as well as 17 months of co-op work experience. Currently a Senior Advisor, Energy Economics @ Gov. of Ontario, Mugwe's story is unique in that he has experienced two different worlds in the 3 spheres we mostly focus on at aKEx: academic life, professional life, and geographical region. He has been educated in both the local Kenyan system, 8-4-4, as well as an international one; he has worked both in the private sector as well as the public sector; and he has lived both in Kenya and the diaspora. What's it like to transition to the International Baccalaureate system after 12 years in 8-4-4? What are some of the factors to consider when deciding what program to study, which university to study in, and which country to live in? What's it like living and working in Ontario, Canada as an international student? How much does it cost and what is the earning potential? Tune in for answers to these questions and more!
