Victoria Johnson speaks with attorney-turned-betrayal-recovery expert Lora Cheadle about healing after profound betrayal and reclaiming identity, joy, and agency. Lora shares how discovering her husband’s long-term infidelity dismantled her sense of self, how she rebuilt using her 5-step FLAUNT framework, and why accepting reality, feeling feelings, and trusting your own truth are the bedrock of recovery. Together they explore reframing anniversaries of loss, navigating setbacks without spiritual bypassing, and “closing scenes” in life like a screenwriter so you can move into the next act with intention.
Betrayal can come from people, life events, our bodies, and self-abandonment through people-pleasing and perfectionism.
Healing requires both regulation and meaning-making. Laughter and play help regulate the nervous system so the prefrontal cortex can engage.
Spiritual bypassing slows recovery. Give yourself permission to feel fully, then use tools to move through.
Progress is not linear. Navigation means pivoting, resting, and continuing with small course corrections.
Trust your own filter. Seek advice, then decide from inner knowing and communicate clearly: “I valued your input, and I have decided to do X.”
Find Your Fetish: Return to pure joy and play for its own sake.
Laugh Out Loud: Use laughter to calm and re-regulate the nervous system.
AU Accept Unconditionally: The golden centre. Accept yourself, others, and what has happened, without trying to change the past.
Navigate the Negative: Expect storms and keep adjusting your course.
Trust in Your Truth: Use your intellect and intuition as the final filter.
Anniversary reframe: Mark difficult dates as milestones of reclamation and growth.
Feel first, then frame: Allow the tears, nausea, and grief. Afterward, choose a supportive narrative.
Five endings exercise: Journal five distinct meanings or endings for a hard event. Pick one and identify what lessons or “foreshadowing” you will carry into the next scene.
Boundary script for advice-givers: “Thank you. I took it into consideration, and I have decided to do Y.”
Micro-navigation: When plans stall, make a small shift rather than abandoning the plan entirely.
“Joy is your natural state.”
“The universe gave me the answer before it gave me the problem.”
“You are the writer of your own screenplay.”
“Accept unconditionally. Then navigate.”
