In our new series Diverse Dialogues, Madeleine Kim interviews students of color from across Alma's Campus. A student of color herself, Madeleine hopes that listeners will approach these perspectives with an open mind as the experiences lived by these students may be unexpected or troubling; though she hopes they understand that that is exactly why they are being shared.
For the first episode of this new series, Madeleine interviews Charlayne-Aye "Char" Olegario, a Filipino student here at Alma College in addition to the co-president of Alma's Asian Student Union. Together, Char and Madeleine discuss the importance of cultural organizations on campus, the effect of immigrant families, and the importance of being able to choose one's identity.
