Monthly Theme: Jesus' Humiliation
And she gave birth to her firstborn son
and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths
and laid Him in a manger,
because there was no room at the inn.
(Luke 2:7)
Jesus was born in a stable. He was born in a stable and then laid in a feeding trough. Think about this scene. We have our little nativity sets that illustrate it, but they never really seem to do it real justice.
The tiny infant Jesus is bundled in little strips of cloth. Then He's basically laid down on a bale of hay or straw. Even with the swaddling cloths, surely stray pieces of straw poked and itched His skin. Then the animals probably didn't take too kindly to have an intruder in their food supply.
But there He was. The lowliest of births for the Savior of the world. A story that tends to get overlooked, but one that needs to be seen in its true color. May that color brighten your day. Amen.
