Monthly Theme: King David
As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David,
Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window.
And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD,
she despised him in her heart.
(2 Samuel 6:16)
The Swedish pop group ABBA had the hit song "Dancing Queen". It's very prominent in the musical "Mamma Mia!" In the Bible, we have a dancing king. Dancing is generally associated with happy events. We dance at weddings but not at funerals.
David went out to greet the Ark of the Covenant as it finally made its way into Jerusalem. He was so happy and excited that he began leaping and dancing in celebration. He was overcome by the Holy Spirit and was rejoicing greatly in the presence of God.
Such should worship be every Sunday. Maybe not all the jumping and dancing, but something more lively than looking like we're going to our execution. Worshipping our God should be joyous and based on St. Peter's words to Jesus in John 6: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life" (v68).
David was a dancing king who loved his God. His legacy lived on many generations after his death because he was a man after God's own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). Your legacy may live on for generations as well as long as you are a man or woman after God's heart. Strive for that goal throughout your life. Amen.
