Monthly Theme: Names of God
When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him,
"I am God Almighty; walk before Me, and be blameless..."
(Genesis 17:1)
God makes changes when He reveals Himself as El Shaddai, "God Almighty." El Shaddai changed Abram's name to Abraham, established the covenantal sign of circumcision and changed Sarai's name to Sarah (Genesis 17:5, 10-11, 15). It was the blessing of El Shaddai that Isaac gave to his son Jacob before sending him away to find a wife from his mother's family (Genesis 28:3). It is El Shaddai that changed Jacob's name to Israel (Genesis 35:10-11).
Things change when El Shaddai is around. Why? Because He's God Almighty. He is omnipotent. He can do anything. The greatest thing He did was have compassion on a worthless lump of sinful flesh like you and send His Son to die on the cross to pay for your sins so that you became, not a worthless lump of sinful flesh, but a valuable vessel for righteousness to do His bidding. He's changed you for His purposes. Have you been fulfilling them or your own? Ask El Shaddai to change you if you need it. Amen.
