Monthly Theme: Holy Spirit (Apostles' Creed)
Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed,
and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
(1 Corinthians 12:3)
After the Holy Spirit calls us by the Gospel, He enlightens us with His gifts. What gifts are these? Primarily the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He also gives us the ability to fear, love and trust in God above all things that we confess in the First Commandment. It's only through these gifts that we can truly worship God.
That true worship is the ability to call Jesus our Lord. That is the only thing that we can say about Jesus once we've been filled with the Holy Spirit in our Baptism. We call Him our Lord because He has saved us from our sins. No Christian can call Jesus accursed. Therefore, faith is the greatest spiritual gift we can receive.
That faith brings us together in the one true faith that we confess in the Creed. That faith is what binds us together as Christians--all those who believe in Jesus as their Lord. The faith that brings together everyone in the common confession of Jesus. Amen.
