"Whoever sheds the blood of man,
by man shall his blood be shed,
for God made man in his own image."
(Genesis 9:6)
In this discourse by God to Noah after departing the Ark, we have the first of the "eye for an eye" passages. God reminds Noah that He made man in His image in the beginning. Our first parents fell from that image through their sin in the Garden. It was the first in a series of events that finally lead to the destruction of all life on earth through the waters of the flood. The people were punished for their sinfulness.
God sets down His Law that all life is sacred. Humanity is the crown jewel of God's Creation. We desecrate that jewel by allowing abortion and euthanasia to continue to murder people created in the image of God day after day. We should reform our lives and our beliefs so that we point out that all life is sacred. Punishment comes down from on high because of murder because man was created in God's image. That image was tarnished by sin, but it has been reclaimed through Baptism into Jesus Christ's death by murder and resurrection. Take a moment to think about that as you go about your day today.
