[Jesus said:] "I am returning to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God."

(John 20:17)

God and Father

In one of His first post-resurrection appearances, Jesus comes to Mary Magdalene as she is weeping in the Garden of Gethsemane. She had just been to the tomb and seen it empty. She was worried that someone had taken Jesus' body away from them. She wonders about what all this means for her.

Jesus appears to her to comfort her in her sorrow. He gives her this message to deliver to the rest of the disciples, "I am returning to My Father and your Father". Jesus tells Mary to remind the disciples that they share the same Father in Heaven. This message comes to us. We, as spiritual descendants of the Apostles, receive the same reminder. We have the same Father in Heaven. He continues to be with us throughout our lives.

The Father of our Lord Jesus Christ reigns in Heaven for the sake of His chosen people in the Church. He adopted us through Baptism and made us His children. Therefore, we can be bold to come before Him and call Him our Father. Amen.
