For I know that my Redeemer lives,
and at the last He will stand upon the earth.
And after my skin has been thus destroyed,
yet in my flesh I shall see God,
whom I shall see for myself,
and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
(Job 19:25-27)
This is one of the most requested readings for the funeral of one who dies with faith in Jesus. It's requested so often because it is a beautiful, faithful picture of life after the resurrection of the dead.
Many people don't believe that we will rise bodily from the dead. They believe that we'll simply float around like spirits in some higher plane of consciousness. But that's not what the Bible teaches. The Bible shows that we will have bodies after our resurrection. Job confessed that. Jesus had a physical body when He appeared to Mary Magdalene and the disciples.
You too will have a physical body after the resurrection. It will be much like yours now yet without the blemishes, scars and wounds. In that body we'll see our Lord face-to-face for all eternity. It's a wonderful thing to consider each and every day. Amen.
