But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Genesis 9:4
Your life is in your blood. Without blood, nothing in your body works properly.
When God allowed us to eat meat, He commanded that we drain the blood completely from the animal. Blood is the central focus of every sacrifice: “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life” (Leviticus 17:11). God prepared the sacrifice of blood to atone for your sins.
Then He turns around and gives it back to you in the Lord’s Supper. Jesus gives His body and blood with the bread and wine so that we have forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. He tells His disciples, “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day” (John 6:53-54).
Your life is in your blood. Without blood, nothing works within you. Without the blood of Christ, nothing works for you. Amen.
