Monthly Theme: Eighth Commandment
Each of you must put off falsehood
and speak truthfully to his neighbor,
for we are all members of one body.
(Ephesians 4:25)
As members of the same body of Christ, Christians need to get along with each other. We cannot have unity in the body of Christ if we are continually conflicting with each other. Conflict is so easily accomplished by spreading falsehood. Falsehood among God's people is the greatest problem we have in relating to each other in Christ's love.
Honesty is stressed through the commandments because falsehood is the complete opposite of God, who is "the Way, the Truth and the Life" (John 14:6). As we are members of Jesus' body, we are part of His Truth. Truth and falsehood cannot stand next to each other. One must give way to the other.
Jesus is the Truth. As Jesus' body, we're called to stand on the Truth. His Word says what it means. His Word is the firm foundation for our lives. We stand together under His Word so that we might stand before Him throughout all eternity. Amen.
