See what kind of love the Father has given to us,
that we should be called children of God; and so we are.
(1 John 3:1)
"Our Father who art in Heaven. ... With these words God tenderly invites us to believe that He is our true Father and that we are His true children, so that with all confidence we may ask Him as dear children as their dear father" (SC III, 1).
God calls us His children through the washing of Baptism. That's the love that He has given to us. He takes away our sin, buries it into the grave where Jesus was buried and clothes us with Jesus' perfect righteousness.
What kind of love is this? It's God's merciful love. God's fatherly love which does everything necessary for us to be His children. Amen.
