Country Song: "I Saw God Today" by George Strait

[Jesus said:] “No one knows the Father except the Son

and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.”

(Matthew 11:27)

Seeing God

George Strait’s song, “I Saw God Today,” shows just how much we take God for granted in our everyday life. Over the last decade or so, many television shows and movies have focused on people seeing God in their everyday lives. But, in real life, we understand that God doesn’t always show up in a very prominent, visible way. Most of the time, He appears in the most subtle of ways.

The chorus of “I Saw God Today” could probably be said by about anyone in America today. The prominent moment in the song is the birth of a child. That’s a subtle way of seeing God’s continuing creative power today as a newborn coming out of his or her mother’s womb.

So God also appears in church in subtle ways. He comes in the form of a humble man standing before a group of people to read and proclaim God’s Word. He comes in the simple form of water as it is poured over a sinner to redeem him from his sins. He comes in bread and wine to continue to strengthen faith in the hearts of believers.

Have you seen God today? Have you seen Him lately where He promises to be where His Word is faithfully taught? Look for Him today. He’s always around to be found. Amen.
