Country Song: "Three Wooden Crosses" by Randy Travis
And when they had mocked Him …
They led Him away to crucify Him….
Then two robbers were crucified with Him,
one on the right and one on the left.
(Matthew 27:31-38)
In 2003, Randy Travis had the hit song, “Three Wooden Crosses.” It talks about four people riding on a midnight bus to Mexico. An eighteen-wheeler runs a stop sign and slams into the bus, killing three of the four passengers. The chorus records the deaths:
There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway,
Why there’s not four of them, Heaven only knows.
I guess it’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you,
It’s what you leave behind you when you go.
The story continues with what each of the dead passengers had left behind. The greatest legacy was when the preacher gave the hooker his Bible and she read it to her son. She instilled the faith into him and he become a preacher himself.
What legacy will you leave when you die? Will it be a lucrative business or knowledge passed on to another generation? Or will it be your faith in Jesus Christ as your One and Only Savior? Faith is the greatest legacy anyone can leave behind. Share yours with someone today. Amen.
