Monthly Theme: Pastoral Epistles (1 Timothy 1)
I thank Him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord,
because He judged me faithful, appointing me to His service.
(1 Timothy 1:12)
Paul thanks Jesus because Jesus believe Paul is faithful. Not just believes that Paul is faithful. Jesus makes Paul faithful. Faithful to the point of being considered trustworthy with a great work for the kingdom of God. Jesus sets up people to do His work that He knows will do a great job. How does He know? First of all, He's God. But secondly, He appoints people for specific tasks.
Jesus does this both inside and outside the Church. Inside the Church, Jesus appoints Apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists and so on. Outside the Church, Jesus appoints all those who are in government. While not all in government are morally good, Jesus still appoints them and gives them the tools and the abilities to govern.
What has Jesus appointed for you to do? Every station you find yourself in in this life is what Jesus has appointed you to do: parent, child, caregiver, employer, employee, teacher, student. All these things have great responsibilities attached to them. Take a moment today to pray that God will continue to strengthen you so that you might continue to be faithful and trustworthy in your calling. Amen.
