''He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money (Matthew 25:16-18).''
When you're given something, the person who gives it to you expects you to use it. In today's verses, we have the three servants who received the talents from their master. Two of the three "went at once" and started using his talents in the market and doubling their gifts. But the one who only received one went and hid it in a hole in the ground. He refuses to use it.
God has given you certain gifts. They might be as valuable as the five-talent man. They may be as the two-talent man. They might even be as the one-talent man. God gives them to you according to your ability. He gives them to you to use them.
Not everyone can be a pastor or missionary or evangelist. But everyone can be a witness for Jesus. And everyone is a witness of Jesus. But it is your responsibility to use the gifts God gives as your witness.
Do not fear being rejected by those who do not believe in Jesus. "Fan into flame the gift of God ... for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:6-7). Use your gifts to witness properly to Jesus. If you aren't sure about how, find a mature Christian and ask them. Having fanned their gifts into flame through their life, they will help you fan yours into flame. Amen.
