I had the pleasure of speaking with Mariel Acevedo. Mariel is the founder and owner of her very own plant studio, Leila's Plants. Mariel, a proud Afro-Latina, was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Jersey City, NJ. Mariel graduated from Rutgers University with a BA and Masters in education from Rutgers University. Inspired by her aunt, Mariel developed a passion for collecting plants which led to entrepreneurship starting with pop up events in June of 2021 and in just one short year, Leila's Plants is a thriving brick and mortar business.
