Show notes - Revisited: But I Need to Lose Weight
On this week's revisited episode, we get to number 2 in our most popular episodes. It’s no surprise that our second most popular episode is related to the feeling of needing to lose weight. The idea that our bodies are always too big is the very reason diet culture exists.
What if you feel that you need to lose weight? Perhaps you feel that it’s ok for others to be in a bigger body but you just can’t accept it for yourself. In this episode, we discuss why it’s hard to simply let go of the desire to lose weight even if you want to pursue an anti-diet path..
If you experience discrimination due to your body size, pursuing weight loss can feel like the only way to support yourself. Society often doesn't feel like a safe place to ‘just not focus on your weight’ and we explore why it’s okay to know that diets don’t work but still have a deep down desire to be thinner.
We explain how you may have been convinced that weight loss is the only route to health, but we share with you why health-promoting behaviours have very little to do with weight loss and what you can pursue instead.
