This is day 4 of our journey.

Today we are introduced to Abram...a simple man who God called to become the father of His chosen people.

We begin Chapter 11 with the birth of the nations at the tower of Babel where God steps in to deal with the flawed plans of arrogant men who had refused to spread out and to fill the earth as God commanded. As God halts their vain efforts and confuses their languages, a world of nationalities and varying cultures is brought into existence as humanity separates into groups and spreads throughout the world.

One such group, a family led by a man named Terah, becomes the focus of God's plan to redeem the world to Himself. The rest of the book of Genesis (and the majority of the Bible) follows the descendants of this family. Most prominently, we are introduced to Abram. God promises to bless him and give him a land of his own. He also tells of a blessing that will be for the whole earth and will come through the line of Abram. That blessing is ultimately fulfilled in the man Jesus Christ. Join me in Genesis 11-13 and learn of the origin of the nations and of Israel.

Key verses:

Genesis 11:7

Come, let’s go down and confuse their language so they won’t be able to understand each other.”

Genesis 12:2

Then I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, so that you will exemplify divine blessing.

Genesis 13:15

I will give all the land that you see to you and your descendants forever.
