This is day 9 of our journey.

Today, we read of God’s appearance to Isaac as He reaffirms the covenant that He made with his father, Abraham, and promises that those blessing will continue through Isaac's lineage. Then, as Isaac is approaching the end of his life, we see his son Jacob living up to his name (a word that means "he cheats").  Working with his mother, Jacob enacts a cunning plot to deceive his father, Isaac, into giving him the blessing reserved for his older brother (and, with it, the promises of God).  As a result of his scheming, Esau begins to plot the murder of Jacob.

Join me in Genesis 26-27 for a tale of the cunning and deceit of man contrasted with the power and sovereignty of God.

Key verses:

Genesis 26:24

The Lord appeared to him that night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”

Genesis 27:29

May peoples serve you and nations bow down to you.You will be lord over your brothers, and the sons of your mother will bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed, and those who bless you be blessed.”
