Day 90 of the podcast, reading 1 Samuel 15-17 NET, read along at:

This is day 90 of our journey.

Today we see the Spirit of God move from King Saul to his successor, David. As the passage begins, Saul again disobeys God and when confronted, makes excuses and passes the blame to others. As a result, God's spirit leaves him. God then calls Samuel to anoint a new king, this time focusing on what God sees instead of what man sees, the heart, not the appearance. God chooses David. Meanwhile, the Philistines attack again and bring a champion, Goliath, to defy Israel and their God. When David hears of it, he is indignant. Even though he is too young to serve in the army of Israel, David faces Goliath and defeats him by the power of God.

Join me in 1 Samuel 15-17 to see God's anointing on David.

Key verses:

1 Samuel 15:22

Then Samuel said, “Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrificesas much as he does in obedience? Certainly, obedience is better than sacrifice;paying attention is better than the fat of rams.

1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t be impressed by his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. God does not view things the way men do. People look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 17:47

and all this assembly will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves! For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will deliver you into our hand.”
