This is day 205 of our journey.
Today we begin the book of Isaiah. Be sure to check out the overview from the Bible Project linked in the description.
Isaiah lived during the last half of the nation of Judah. He spoke a message of God's coming judgement because of the rebellion of Israel. This judgement would come at the hands of the nations of Assyria and Babylon. But, at the same time, Isaiah also gave a message of hope for the future of the nation. He believed that God would fulfill his covenant promises and, though trials and suffering would most assuredly come, he bolstered the people of Israel by sharing visions of that future deliverance.
Today we read about the judgement that will come at the hands of enemy nations. This judgement was necessary to be the purifying fire that would prepare the way for the New Jerusalem where justice and peace will reign. This theme will be revisited throughout the book.
Join me in Isaiah 1-4 and remember how God judges sin, but keeps his promises!
