Despite the cancellation of the 1940 and 1944 Olympic Games due to World War II, after the war, stories emerged of several unofficial Olympic Games being held in the most unlikely of places—German Prisoner of War camps. While few details survive, these “POW Olympics” prove the spirit of Olympism can survive even the darkest of times.
