Description

Well it’s Pride Month and there’s no better way to honor it than to hear a real coming out story from a friend. Shelly has invited her friend Dave to share his path to becoming his true self and sharing that with those around him. He begins at the point of realizing his attraction to men, his tenuous path forward up to the moment that solidified his suspicions. He talks about the decision to come out to his family, which was met with surprise, but also acceptance and support.

He discusses so many things that you will be able to relate to, whether it’s yourself or a family member or a friend. The fear of public affection before coming out, the worry that he wouldn’t be able to have the job that he wanted, family and social pressure, worrying about being accepted, guilt from past beliefs and experiences, and how he found much of that to be nonsense once he bravely showed the world who he was.

He also acknowledges that he was very lucky to have lived in a time and a place near New York City where he was able to go and see such a wide variety of people, especially so many like him. They also talk about the progress that has happened over the last 50 years, and he finishes by giving some advice to others who may be going through a similar journey as his. This is a beautiful, informative and heartfelt interview that is so timely during Pride Month.
