Ariel isn't the only mermaid out there. In popular culture, mermaids have become known as beautiful, magical creatures of the sea. They are most commonly depicted as being half human and half fish, with the torso of that of a gorgeous woman and a long flowing fabulous fish tale. As stated, they are magical, mystical, and sing beautifully. Whether this is to entice sailors to their pleasure or their demise is the question and varies depending on which myth you subscribe to. Almost every culture on Earth has their own mermaid, and sometimes, these myths will conflict with what we typically imagine when we think about mermaids.
