This week we are highlighting our very first advocate of the month. We started this initiative within our coalition to give our programs the opportunity to showcase and celebrate the amazing advocates that they have on staff. Advocacy is a difficult job and they are such a fundamental part of supporting survivors, so we wanted to make sure that our advocates across New Mexico know that we see them and value their hard work and dedication to the cause.
Our first ever advocate of the month is Adrianne Martinez. Adrianne was nominated by Dr. Celia Bryant of Grammy’s House in Artesia, New Mexico.
Adrianne's Bio:
"I am an on-call shelter advocate at Grammy’s House Domestic Violence Shelter located in Artesia, New Mexico. I became an advocate at the age of nineteen in order to give back to my community, as well as aid survivors of need. I am now twenty-three years old, and still passionate about every aspect of my job as an advocate. Whether it be aiding survivors in locating resources they are in need of, providing support, safety planning, or anything in between I am here for survivors of domestic violence of all ages and backgrounds. I am also pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work as well as a Masters Degree in Forensic Science/Criminology. I also enjoy reading books of varying genres as well as spending quality time with my family. I also enjoy attending plays and operas."
