Tonight we go behind the scenes with ALS and explore what it’s like for me to live with the disease, and for Bevin to care for someone who suffers from ALS. I realize that most people who watch this show just see me from the shoulders up each week, and are unaware of what is going on behind the scenes since ALS hasn't impacted my speech yet.
What you can’t see is how my arms don’t work very well anymore and how this impacts doing almost anything that requires my arms and hands. While technically my ALS has been slower progressing than in most cases, I am now also losing strength in my legs as well, which is making it very tiring to walk any distances and to keep my balance, which is very alarming as I no longer have the strength or mobility in my arms to catch myself when I trip or do fall. Tonight we will discuss what all this means and what hope there may be for people with ALS in the future, yet also some of the upcoming challenges Bevin and I are now facing and plans that we have in the works for ourselves, but also for others battling this terrible disease (see event group linked below).
