As some may already know, we (Arezoo and Hadil) connected over Linkedin on September 7th, 2020. We were both going through a similar journey of questioning our paths and reflecting on what type of an Architect we wanted to become. We were both reflecting on how we felt like we were belonging and contributing to an industry that was causing more harm than good. Even though we both are people who dwell so much within our thoughts who started questioning at the early stages of our lives, the lockdown was a true catalyst for us to connect, talk more deeply about what was going on in our minds, and actually do something about it. We are living on two different sides of the world. I mean when Arezoo is usually is sipping on her evening tea from Milano, Hadil would be sipping on her morning coffee from Toronto. That should paint a clear picture! In this opening episode of our first season of questioning, we decided to share our experiences and show you what it feels like to be a part of one of the random and deep conversations that we have together. We will be talking about our experiences and reasons behind choosing architecture as a profession, our perspective on how the education system shaped us, how architecture was being seen as a service, and the negative connotation that is associated with the word humanitarian and social architecture. We both believed that we live in a society that does not encourage questioning. We prefer to keep things as they are to the extreme that we actually sacrifice humanity and nature to keep the system unchanged and unquestioned. But, the connection we both had allowed us to share and face some of our insecurities, fears, lessons learned, the disorientation, and inability to connect the dots of our own life and paths and allowed us to realize, that we just like everyone else had a story. For us to ask others to share their stories we decided to start with ourselves.
