Taken from a question from a client, "If I'm trying to lose weight, should I skip breakfast to reduce my overall calories in the day?"
Great question, that I hear over and over again. It makes sense if you consider the popular phrase, "calories in vs calories out". The problem is, our bodies are not machines, and it doesn't necessarily work that way.
Our metabolism and the way our body works are complex systems with influences from hormones and other neurochemicals. Most people who skip breakfast, who I see in my practice, overeat later in the day, have more cravings throughout the day/night, and are struggling with their weight.
Study on Meal Timing
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23512957/
High caloric intake at breakfast vs. dinner differentially influences weight loss of overweight and obese women. Rob and Sandra discuss this study and its implications, including many cases that Sandra sees in her private practice with clients who are trying to manage their weight. It's not just WHAT you eat, but WHEN you eat that matters to your health and your weight!
