In this episode, we talk about so many of the benefits of sexual intimacy in marriage. We talked about some of the hormones that are responsible for all of these benefits and wanted to share the notes on this for your reference:
Endorphins:
Endorphins released during orgasm actually mimic morphine
Oxytocin:
Known as the “love hormone” is released during an orgasm
Also released during labor and breastfeeding - it bonds a mother to her baby.
Causes feelings of attachment and trust
Immunoglobulin a (IgA):
These antibodies help combat disease and keep bodies safe from colds and flu
Testosterone and Estrogen:
Can keep the body looking young and vital
Neurotransmitters:
Dopamine - related to how we feel pleasure and motivates our brains to feel that pleasure again
Seratonin - regulates mood, social behaviors, emotions, appetite, and digestion, sleep, memory, and sex drive.
Epinephrine:
An adrenaline hormone which activates your sympathetic nervous system giving you feelings of exhilaration.
Nitric Oxide:
Minimizes symptoms of depression and anxiety
