On April 30th, 1952, Ted Williams hit a home run in the final plate appearance of his final game before being drafted into the Marines to fight in Korea. Most thought this would be the culmination of an already historic career, already cut short by a previous stint in World War II. The story behind that historic home run is fascinating, historic, and largely sidelined by our digressions into Herbie Hancock, the demographics of Boston in 1950, and the economics of cryonic freezing. Aw well.
