Description

Thessalonians 1 and 2 are written to people driven by empathy, but without boundaries. Paul is a cheerleader and then a gentle instructor as he shows empathy for the individual church and compassion for the world, by requiring these empathetic people to live in the boundaries that will protect them from people who do not have the same empathy or worst ethic.
Jennifer is an empathetic person, who cared for others so much that she literally broke her back, and was laid up for a year, unable to work or care for people. As she relates her story, she cries remembering how she tried to control her suffering because her heart had been broken.
Have you experienced this same kind of empathy? Is your empathy a mask for being “tough enough” to control your suffering?
Kirk asks about the general outcomes and ramifications of boundless empathy, for the family, for the individual, and for the world. The implications can be seen in politics right now in America, and in most of the stories happening during this pandemic.
The need for exceptional boundaries, an empathy tempered by compassion, has never been greater.
How will you balance love and truth, empathy and compassion, in your life?
