In a 1918 essay written by Randolph Bourne, he observed, "War is the Health of the State." At the time that he made this observation, war was a periodic occurrence. Now that we live in a state of perpetual war, I think Bourne would revise his observation to say that war is the very lifeblood of the state. It pulses through the government body consuming our very liberty while killing and destroying those that interfere with its objectives. The Mises Institute is the premier antiwar institution in America and continues to demonstrate to its followers that state power grows at an enormous cost to our property and liberty, as well as our ability to pursue happiness.
