Yes, Fartlek is a real word!! It is Swedish for "speed play".
Why am I talking fartleks (besides it being a fun word to say?)
As a population we tend to glorify and romanticize being epic, going full out all day, every day and not stopping until we drop. While this seems pretty cool on the outside (and on TV), it's not healthy and not really a great way to enjoy everything life has to offer!
So... why not fartlek life? It's using HIIT strategy for things that you want to get done and achieve!
Plan what you want to get done - break it into chunks - focus and go all out for a short period of time and then... you got it.. REST!!
Why? Rest will let you recover, reflect on what you got done, realize what else might work, and then you can go at it again when you are fresh and ready to charge forward again! You will actually get further this way than trying to go 100% start to finish... trust me on this one!
