New details from Hoover police appear to cast doubt on a story in Carlee Russell case
New facts released Wednesday by police are putting the recent 49-hour disappearance of a Hoover woman Carlethia "Carlee" Nichole Russell in a new light. Authorities now allege that Russell:
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Hoover Police Chief Nicholas Derzis seemed to cast doubt on the story behind the 49-hour disappearance of Russell that began the evening of July 13.
“She said that when she got out of the vehicle to check on the child, a man came out of the trees and mumbled that he was checking on the baby,” Derzis said. “She said that the man then picked her up, and she screamed. She stated that he then made her go over a fence. She claimed he then forced her into a car. And the next thing she remembers is being in the trailer of an 18-wheeler.”
Derzis said there were two people in the truck, a man with orange hair and a bald spot on the back, and a female she couldn’t see. “She also told detectives she could hear a baby crying,” Derzis said.
Russell told detectives she escaped the 18-wheeler and fled on foot, only to be captured again and be put in a car.
